The Carvin CM87S is a large-diaphragm condenser microphone designed for studio-quality recording. It is suitable for vocals and instruments, featuring a 6 micron gold-sputtered capsule, a cardioid pickup pattern, and a -10 dB pad and low-cut filter. It comes with a remote phantom power supply, which is extremely useful in many studio situations where +48 volt phantom is required.
The CM87S was believed to have originally been built with the assistance of East German engineers for the domestic Chinese broadcast market in the once top secret state-run 797 military facility in Beijing. Rebranded by Carvin, it was one of the first Chinese-made mic offerings to have been imported to the States, and originally retailed at $695. The CM87S was based on a hybrid circuit design similar to the ADK A51 and the MXL 2001 with a K67 style capsule.
The mic is accompanied with the original remote +48v phantom power supply and rugged aluminum flight case.
